Very easy to use and gives a reading in less than a second. I've been using it to test milk temp when I make yogurt. Works great.

We'll see how long it holds up but this is the easiest thermometer I've ever had to just check the meats done before I take it out of the oven. It turns on when you pull the wands down and there you go it starts working immediately. Very easy!

Works just fine. We have used the $99 brand for years until it finally broke. This seems to work equally well, has a lighted screen and can be fully washed. The pricey model could not be placed under running water. If this lasts only a few years it will still be a better value.

I cook a lot of food on the grill and in the smoker. Finding the internal temp is very important to make sure food is cooked all the way through, or cooked to the proper temp/doneness for steaks/bbq. I have another instant read thermometer (a Javelin Pro) and it works well, but seems like it takes a several seconds (~5 or so) to really get a good, accurate read on a temp.I picked up this Thermomaven instant-read thermometer because I wanted something that would give me the internal temp quicker (so I don't have to leave the grill lid/smoker door open as long). This thermometer does seem to get to the internal temp a bit quicker than the Javelin. It claims to be 0.5 seconds, but I think with any of these, you really need to give it a couple seconds for a true reading.The thermometer feels very well made and more solid than the Javelin Pro. Both have a backlight, but the Thermomaven's display flips 180 degrees if you rotate it so the reading is always right-side up. It has a bottle opener embedded in the back so you can easily open another beer while standing by the grill. It also uses a AAA battery, as opposed the the CR2032 coin style battery of the Javelin Pro, which I find more convenient. It also claims to be IP67 rated for water resistance but I haven't (and don't plan to intentionally) put that to the test.My only complaint is that the display is hard to read if you aren't looking at it straight on (this is not an issue with the Javelin Pro). It's actually kind of a bummer because sometimes I'm doing readings on several different pieces of meat and I might not be able to get a straight-on view if the piece of meat is at the back of the grill.
