Q: how to adjust spring tension?

I don't believe it is. Just varying the mounting height based on gate weight.

Q: I would like to know if the spring tension can be adjusted to accommodate a lighter or heavier gate?

Both sides of my gate is board on board and it works on my gate. It is rolling on cement. The sleeve moves up and down because the concrete is on an angle. It works well with my gate but I don't see a way to adjust the tension because it is in a metal sleeve. My gate is very heavy. I'm happy with the way it works. You may be able it adjust it on the bottom but I haven't tried.

Q: The spring won't carry <100 lbs. It bottoms out with the weight of my gate <100 lbs. Can the spring load be adjusted?.

I inserted a full size wood block as a shim inside the support frame to hold the shape and it did not work. The wood began deteriorating under the pressure of the assembly. I then inserted a solid metal block as a shim and it did provide additional support. However, what I found is once I shimmed the frame with the metal block the wheel started breaking down much more rapidly as the tire material is softer. To be honest, I got sick of trying to make the wheel work and I ultimately removed the gate from the hinges on the concreted support and shimmed the bottom hinge about 5/16" to lift the gate. The result was roughly 1.5" of overall clearance at the far end (furthest from the hinges) of the 12" gate length.
