Q: Has anyone used this to cover books

Not used this to cover books,excellent product for food wrapping.

Q: is it ok for microwave use?

Package says Microwave Safe,To prevent wrap from melting,foods high in fat,bacon,sugar,pastries Should not come into contact with wrap in the microwave.Turn back one corner,to vent excess steam.

Q: Can you use this in simmering water eg to make poached egg?

Never tried it but you can use cling film to make poached eggs

Q: Can this be used in the oven?

I wouldn't think so as would just melt. I've only used to seal food in fridge and for craft projects.
