I've been using Kensington Orbit track balls for decades
The best review I can give is my repeated purchase of these. My first purchase of a Kensington Orbit was for an Apple Power PC with their cutting edge and proprietary USB precursor bus. Yes, I am that old. A wired variety is just fine for me, but when I am traveling, a wireless device is better.I love the scroll ring. Using it feels natural, and it never gets in the way when I'm not using it.When you lift your hand from a standard mouse, there tends to be movement of the cursor. When you lift your finger from a track ball, the cursor stays in place. It also takes up very little desk space. I could sit on my bed in a hotel room with the trackball mouse on the mattress and use it very easily. A standard mouse would have challenges in that scenario, partly because it would continue to move around (and move the computer cursor) with every crease, fold and movement of the sheets. This device doesn't overcomplicate things. I have seen others that move the trackball to the left side to be used only by a thumb, have three or more buttons with scroll wheels sticking out of the top or out from the sides. The Orbit is ambidextrous and its operation is clean and intuitive. You don't need an instruction manual. Plug it in and it works. My only complaint is there is no travel case for this device. I haven't found a third party one either. There are travel cases for other Kensington trackball models, but not this one. The trackball can pop out with a little pressure when inverted. This is good so you can occasionally clean up the fuzz and grime that collects over time. Over many years I never had one fail due to dirt build up, but it is good to do for your own piece of mind. This also means the trackball might come loose in baggage. Imagine the nightmare of it rolling around in an airplane cabin because it came apart in your bag! Luckily I have a fabric pouch to carry it in. It is not a custom case intended to keep everything in place, but if anything pops off it will stay contained in the pouch.

Fantastic mouse. They took their best mouse with a wire and turned it wireless finally and it is flawless. I don't even care that it doesn't have a lot of buttons. I wouldn't even dock a star for that. I've bought two so far. The only thing that is a slight negative is the slot where the battery goes in, the cover comes loose occasionally while traveling, but other than that it's perfect.

Closest thing to a Trackman available now
Finally a trackball that isn't thumb-based and actually works!I was a user of the Logitech Trackman for years and loved it but that was discontinued and Logitech never replaced it with a finger-based trackball. So I've been trying different thumb-based trackballs ever since and only been disappointed. This Orbit trackball is the closest to what I've been looking for. Great build quality. The software isn't intrusive or awkward. The ergonomics make it easy to use for brief interactions with the computer as I work in a studio. I really like the scroll wheel. Since this device has Bluetooth AND the RF connection, I can connect it to my desktop and laptop and easily swap back and forth by just the switch on the bottom. This is really convenient! Just use Bluetooth on one computer and RF on the other. The only real complaint is I wish it were designed in a way that allowed for more buttons. There is really nowhere on this device where you could add another button though.Other trackballs that let me down:Elecom Deft - the left click started being a double click, all the time. Made it unusable. Also the software was awkward and support was basically nonexistent.Kensington Expert trackball - for whatever reason, moving the cursor across the screen in a straight line (especially up and down) wasn't easy. It would curve and there was no way to calibrate it. Unusable for me.Logitech Ergo M575 - thumb-based trackball movement. Gave it a try and can't adjust to using my thumb for movement. Otherwise, a nice item. Unusable for me.I ended up buying 2 of these Orbits. One for home and one for in the studio. It's working out great in both places, and as I said, when I bring my laptop home I can switch the home trackball to the laptop with the switch on the bottom. I just wish there were an additional button I could program, but that's ok.

Nice little trackball
Bought this for my personal laptop. I use the Expert Mouse for work but purchased this one for my personal laptop. Getting used to the smaller trackball form factor took a little time getting used to but overall a nice trackball. The scroll ring was nice too. However because of the smaller footprint and me being used top the larger Expert Mouse, I found my hand feeling a little cramped after using for a little bit of time. The wrist rest needs to be wider too and not too narrow. For smaller hands this would be find but for larger hands the Expert Mouse is nicer. Had to return due to the fact my hand kept cramping up using it. I purchased a wireless Expert Mouse instead.
