Solid performer when set against two others
Despite expensive roof, chimney and pointing repairs we have a huge problem with damp and mould in our back bedroom, so having a dehumidifier in there has been a must for four years now... and it was nearly four years to the day that our trusty ProBreeze 10l dehumidifier recently gave up the ghost. I waited for a few weeks hoping that something similar would come up on the Vine review programme of which I am a member, but no luck, so did some research and bought this MeacoDry Arete 1 10l from Amazon. Then, of course, a £179.99 Dryzone 12l unit came up on Vine, swiftly followed by a MYCOND Roomer 12l at around £160.They are very similar machines which operate on the same principle and which are all virtually the same size; stats from the manuals are claimed as follows -MeacoDry Arete (this one): 163W; 10 litres per day at 80% humidity; 2.5l tank; 38 dB peak; 10.7 kg, front tank, £159. Also has carry handle, unlike the others.Dryzone: 175W; 12 litres per day at 80%; 2.2l tank; 39 dB; 11.1 kg; rear tank; £179.99.MYCOND Roomer: 180W; 12l per day at 80%; 2l tank; 36 dB; 12 kg; rear tank; £160 approx (price is no longer listed). This did at least give me a chance to test them against each other, so I set them up evenly spaced in the middle of that bedroom and added two clothes dryers full of fresh washing to up the humidity level a bit. I also used two hygrometer/thermometer units to check the machines' own readings, which were within close range of each other. The room started at 21 deg C and 64% humidity, rising to 23 degrees as the machines ran for 8 hours and reduced the humidity to 40%.In those 8 hours the millilitres of water each unit removed from the air were as follows:1st: MYCOND Roomer, 880ml2nd: Meaco Arete (this unit), 760ml3rd: Dryzone, 570ml.So this unit performed solidly and much better than the third placed one. I gave the MYCOND Roomer 5 stars, but I'm also giving this one 5 stars because the carry handle and front loading tank make it much more convenient in use; it's also the lightest and has the largest tank, which means that even if it extracts slightly less per hour than the Roomer, it can go longer before it automatically switches itself off and you have to empty the tank - which often will even things out.

Works nicely, especially at drying clothes
This works lovely and is great for drying clothes! We usually have it in the bathroom which gets very humid when the shower is usedThe water tank fills steadily but is easy to remove... though it can be awkward tipping the water out into the sink as it just pours out of the corner holesThe unit is quite heavy to lift but pushes around easily on its wheelsWe have a clothes airer with it and its amazing how quickly clothes dry despite having no additional heat applied...This defo cuts down on electricity costs instead of using the tumble dryerIt sits humming away, but its not a loud noise - still, i wouldn't want it in my bedroom with me over night as I like the quiet... though I'm sure you'd get used to it!The buttons are all easy to use and the menu is simple - we usually have it set on CO (continuous) on the humidity setting whilst drying clothes so it goes full whack all the timedefo recommend

Excellent
Bought this a couple of weeks back and so far very impressed with it.I have had to empty it about 5/6 times already ( just me , not included my wife ). It works really well. Although I don't believe the Humidity levels are correct on the device ( it fluctuates too much for it to be accurate ) it still does a pretty good job at taking the humidity out of the room.We use it when we dry the laundry and do the ironing ( family of 5 with 3 teenagers... ) and the laundry dry within 24 hours or overnight ( combined with the central heating ).It does make a noise when on , and it CAN be distracting when there is no other noise in the room. But it's not that bad. It's like having a fan on . I wouldn't run it in a bedroom at night if you like a quiet room to sleep.I guess it will also depend on the type of floor you put it on. Ours is on a wooden floor so the noise would be higher than a concrete floor due to vibrations.Nonetheless it is a very good device so far. Works as intended and even more in our case as we thought it wouldn't do much but it actually does.I'd say for those who want to use it for laundry drying , that it would help when you are in between 2 seasons and it's not cold enough for the central heating to kick in all day, and the weather is too cold/wet to dry outside.Would definitely recommend this dehumidifier so far.Hope it will last us long enough without issues...Did I mention it was also guaranteed for 5 years? No ? Well it is...;-)

Nice looking, easy to use
Have only been using this for just over 2 weeks and it is helping to reduce the humidity in our 2 bed flat - but as soon as we switch it off the humidity levels shoot back up. We are getting a professional damp survey done as we have levels of between 70-80%.! Have also found the humidity level displayed on the machine is normally around 10% higher than the independent hygrometers we have in all the rooms! We have the 10L machine - but not quite sure why it's called this as there is just 2.5L of water in the tank when it's full - and consequently stops. However, it's still helping our problem but feel we may have a bigger structural issue which we hope will be identified by a professional survey.
