Even better than I had hope for. Now indispensable.
I have a bit of a thing about torches. My favourite has been a LED Lenser head torch with rechargeable 18650 battery. It's so bright and the adjustable beam width is very handy, not to mention multi brightness settings. More and more I found myself holding the head torch in my hand and using it as a regular torch, which is not very sensible. Then I saw this Maklta torch advertised in the build up to Christmas. I was interested as I had a Makita battery already. Although many reviews suggested that the torch was not the brightest, the price was decent so I ordered one and gave it to myself for Christmas. What a surprise. I now use this torch almost every day. Despite some reviews commenting to the contrary, it is very bright. I've always found the beam more than adequate, even comparing to my much loved LED Lenser. The battery life is bonkers. After much use over the last three weeks, the 5 Ah battery is still showing 3/4. What makes it extra handy is that it is free standing, like a drill, and the head can be clicked up or down so the beam can shine exactly where you want it. Couple that with the fact that you can pick it up and know you have hours of battery life, means it is so practical. If I broke it, I'd buy another straight away. Talking of which. I have dropped it but it is strong enough to survive knocks and bumps. Recommended..

Fantastic torch
Bought two of these, one for me and one for son. Great little torch and as we both have Makita 18v battery tools didn’t need any batteries. One charge seems to last for ever.

Bright light
I use the DML815 for extra light when repairing things in the house and finding wine in a barely lit recess at the back of my garage. I switch on the torch and get to work. No problem with the Makita batteries, they are excellent and last well. The beam is bright, the hook is useful. If you are thinking of putting the torch on a shelf above your head, bear in mind that the head of the torch moves one click below horizontal, unlike the old one, which is not quite enough. It is easy to use and versatile.

Could be brighter
Overall a very useful and robust tool with a long battery life, but they could have made the LEDs more powerful given the amount of battery capacity available.
