Q: Does the caring Case close? Will they keep the straws clean in a backpack?

I thought the carrying case was some kind of hinged case but actually it's silicone too with a slit at the top. You fold up your straw and push it into the case. It doesn't "close". You can put something through the "loop" and hang it off your bag or whatever to keep it handy but again, not a close-able case. so you will have to decide if just having an open slit will work for you.

Q: Fda doesn't approve this type of products. what does it mean by "fda certified" here?

They did not clog up for me. It comes with cleaning tool. I washed each time.
