The source of Zhan zhuang standing
Few people are aware of where standing exercises originated. The people who once lived at what is today called the North Pole, when the poles shifted, started migrating south. One group came down through Siberia into what is today known as the Gobi desert. Another group moved down through Ireland, Scotland, England, Scandinavia etc , but that is another story. Wherever these people rested, locals recognized their superior knowledge and asked for instruction. The basic rule was, and still is, no questions , no answers. In order to contact the energy of source, a student was told to simply stand still. Over time the student would become aware of an inflow of energy from above, down through his body to the earths center and back up through the body to,the center of the Sun. If a student stood long enough, the energy would begin to move his body in various ways. It is vital,to,understand the moves were not directed by one’s intellect, but were solely guided by the energy. Each day the energy would move the body in whatever manner it needed that day. The moves would tend to flow not unlike what today would look like tai chi chuan. If students were not capable of developing this way of moving they were taught a “form” done with intellect and memory. The area where this teaching was done in the Gobi was known as Zhan Zuang. It had its own language and culture. Today you are to;d this language is extinct and can’t be translated. This is not true. Several, vol’umes have been translated by a good friend of mine.Any system of standing which tries to tell you intellectual, things to,do is false and should be ignored.Good luck.A teacher I worked with used to go live in the Chen village. He asked several,of the old timers if what I had said was true. They all said Tai Chi began with just standing but they were not sure how it evolved. You don’t need to learn how to,fight intellectually. The Chi will protect you. Remember chi kung means “chi work”. Not intellect work.
