Simply Stitched with Appliqué: Embroidery Motifs and Projects with Linen, Cotton and Felt

This is a good book, with patterns and directions for creating over 30 motiffs with embroidery and applique. Almost all of the designs are flowers and leaves, and only 2 designs are of birds. The book and the embroidery designs are beautiful, but the actual directions are not very extensive or complete. I recommend this book, but only if you are experienced in embroidery. I love the embroidery/ appliqué books by this incredible needlework artist. As another reviewer noted they are stunning and yet deceptively simple to make. The supplies are readily available. The directions are clear and not affected by translation. Some view her books as not meant for a beginner. However I am a firm believer in challenging yourself. That is how you become a skilled needleworker. When I look back on some of the projects I made when I was new embroiderer, sewer, quilter, etc. I am amazed I had the nerve. Some of these projects are hanging in my home 40 years later. I highly recommend this book and this artist.

If your are a beginner don't buy this book. Yes the pictues are beautiful and the projects are inspirational, but I'm looking to actually recreate them not just be inspired. And to receate them, you need step by step directions, which this book does not have. There is very little if any information on the stitches used and how to make them. They do offer diagrams for the fabric but most need to be copied and enlarged as there isnt a pattern sheet that comes with the book.

Everything is beautiful with very nice instructions to go along with everything. These designs look complicated, but I think even a beginner could pick these up if they follow. Simply the best embroidery designs anywhere. I have all the books!

This is a beautiful book. Every craft is elegant and inspired. The only trouble I’ve had is deciding which project to try first because they are all so lovely.

This is one of my absolute favourite books and I have a few! How I love doing picture work and love to work with felt or wool. These designs are gorgeous, fabulous instructions and gets the imagination working for further projects. I have ordered her next book due in September, cannot wait.

Beautiful simple designs with easy to follow instructions. I would have liked a few more colour photos or illustrations rather than line drawings but really that doesn't detract too much from the book. I had read a review that complained about having to get patterns enlarged but most are ready to use so I don't see that being a problem.

Enjoying reading this book and seeing alternative ways of doing embroidery and applique which I intend to employ when doing my own projects.

It’s a simple no nonsense book with good ideas that are easily transferred to your own projects. I do like it.
