They're slightly round and will not stand up.

No. You manipulate the hole until it fits over the tube.

Q: Does it fit the two different sizes of toothpaste tubes?

Yes it does BUT the toothpaste doesn't go back in the cap and it makes a mess. The caps are silicone so they fit both tubes.

Q: Has anyone tried these for acrylic paint?

Only in my toothpaste, and works perfect
