The Primate Family Tree: The Amazing Diversity of Our Closest Relatives

I purchased this book because I love the great apes, especially chimps. But I learned so much about monkeys and great apes. Also wonderful photos. The only thing I didn't care for is that the book is probably outdated (2008). There's always research being done on primates, and I imagine a lot more is known in the past 13 years. I wish there were a new edition available.

This book may be the most complete story and survey of nonhuman primates out there. It is a large book, laid out in such a way to make it easily readable and most informative. Its degree of detail will appear to those interested in every aspect of primatology, although one needn't be an expert to enjoy and appreciate this book. It is full of interesting, almost wonderous pictures, and the text is arranged to make short reads at a time quite easy. The book deals with every aspect of primatology, from the most scientific to the most phenomenologically interesting. For those interested in monkeys and apes, this book is a must.

Although it did not turn out to interest me a lot, this book might be good for a different audience. It is a well done but rather superficial introduction to the primates. It would serve as a good introduction to primates for someone with limited knowledge on the subject, a teenager interested in the subject, or an advanced child with an interest in monkeys and apes.The book starts off with a decent introduction to the primate family, its features, its distribution, and its evolution. It then goes through each group of primates with descriptions and observations. The result is more coffee table book than I was hoping for, but it has its place. With a lot of good pictures and and a simple style it could be a good starting point to learn about primates.

My nephew loves it

I bought this book for my dad who is an Anthropologist and a professor who is leading his own Anthropology Institute. I though he would enjoy this as a birthday gift, only to find that he uses it as his textbook for his classes already. (Too bad my dad already had many copies, but he was excited to get another from me.) It is a fantastic book and my dad absolutely loves it! The pictures are great too. What a perfect book for those interested in Anthropology and primate evolution.

This book is great!! For primate lovers its everything you could ask for: great photos of apes, informative knowledge about all kinds of things related to primates, love it!!

Great pictures! Easy to read. It was a required text for my anthro class, I have zero interest in Primate evolution or primates in general, but I ended up giving it to my Grandma who has dementia and has trouble reading books lately. Now it is the ONLY book she reads!

A very interesting and informative text dealing with the primates . Nicely illustrated . Yet the book is quite compact for the extensive content . Very pleasing to read .

Bought for my granddaughter who loved it .

This book gives an overview of the taxanomic primate family tree, it gives a brief description of each species and where it fits in the evolutionary structure. A wonderful colourful book.

Interesting enough, but far from the best wildlife book I've read.
