Solid State Relay SSR-40AA AC to AC Input 70-250VAC to Output 24-480VAC 40A Single Phase Plastic Cover

I used this product for a waste oil heater in my workshop. I found that, whenever I would work an automotive hoist, or the a/c compressor would cycle, the voltage fluctuation in the building caused the 8 pin relay inside the machine to trip (original relay in my hand in the picture I’ve posted). It’s a traditional relay with very little tolerance for voltage fluctuations. When the voltage dropped, the electromagnetic coil would release, and the oil pump would stop and cause the machine to set a light. This was driving me nuts, because if I wasn’t quick enough to catch it, the fire would extinguish.I installed two of these solid state relays to replace the single 8 pin. They completely fixed the issue thanks to their wide voltage tolerance. No more resets. Before this I tried a UPS power backup and a line conditioner to no avail (the line conditioner helped a little but not always).Oh, and the relay led lights come on anytime it has power on the control side. The output side has nothing to do with the lights.Overall quality seems high. I’m impressed. I wasn’t excited about an import relay, but these really seem like they are well made in all respects.

I'm using this SSR to control a 1650 watt heating element I added to a kettle. It can adjust the power up and down just like the dial on a stove.It should work out of the box on a 220v system, but for 110v the range of control is very narrow. I'm talking no power until the last 1/6 of the dial. This can be fixed by adding ~114.7K of resistance in parallel with the pot. I did this with a combination of resistors I had lying around. As a result, I can control the SSR with the full turn of the dial. You may have to experiment with different amounts of resistance; 114.7K turned out to be just right for my setup.UPDATE: I've been using this SSR frequently for 6 months now and it's still working just as well as in the beginning. These devices catch a lot of flack for their typical quality, but so far I have no complaints. Make sure that heat is being properly dissipated and it should be fine.UPDATE 2: A year later since my last update and my SSR is still going strong. I've been using it frequently and still have no complaints.

I installed this relay between a Lutron Caseta switch and a circuit that had more draw than the switch was designed for. The relay is performing flawlessly and I'm now able to control those lights with the Caseta switch! Before I did this, I blew two of them. Lesson learned and I'll likely use more of these as I deploy more switches.

Item worked good. My only criticism is that it is very touchy. Meaning that it does not take much to change the amperage input….like barely a touch in some instances. It worked for my needs but I. The future I might be looking to upgrade the pentometimeter

The media could not be loaded. Used it to control the input voltage on a rewound microwave transformer used as a spot welder, secondary was replaced with 3 turns of # 4 wire. Output was used to spot welder 18650 batteries. A timer was employed to set the on time to 8ms.The voltage was controlled by the SSR.Make sure you use an MOV across the primary or you could destroy the SSR.

This works with 120V AC on input and output so my smart switch (a Shelly plug) can now control 2 shop vacs. The Shelly only handled 16A and each shop vac pulled more than that on startup (so the smart switch would go into protection mode.)I wired the relay in line into a power strip and now the shelly now just sends a signal to the relay when it should be on.

Would buy again.

It has been working perfectly controlling the heating element in my 15 gallon brew kettle for 2.5 years.
