Gives the person using this a chance to hear not only themselves, but their loudness level and their pronunciation of words. Definitely a help when trying to distinguish certain sounds that are very close sounding. With the auditory phone it brings the annunciation and sounds better to the ear. Also the kids have fun playing with it too, so that is an added bonus.

I got this for my triplets to use as a toy phone, hoping that it would help them to learn to speak more clearly since they could hear themselves talk. It does deliver a clear tone right back to your ear when you speak into it, which is great, but the first time the kids used it (not too roughly), it popped into two pieces. I snapped it back together, but a few minutes later they dropped it onto a foam mat from 4 feet and it popped apart again. We ended up duct taping it together to prevent it from popping open, but the material is quite thin, I can imagine it will probably break for good one of these days. It's not super-expensive, but I still wish it were a little more durably made.

I have a two year old son who has a slight speech delay and his therapist used a similar thing to this so I bought one for home use. His speech therapist saw how he loved it and promptly bought one for her other students to use.
