Q: Will this masher fjt into a ball jar??

I just used this to compress some chili and some onions in a wide mouth, half gallon Ball jar. So for me, yes.

Q: how big is the handle? would be it too big for a young toddler?

My three year old loves helping mash with this tool. Great for adults or young children.

Q: Ok, i've read this does fit into a wide mouth canning jar, and i read that it doesn't. which is it?

I purchased on in July 2016. I have Ball, wide mouth, canning jars and if I put the tool straight into the jar it will not go past the neck of the jar. However, if you tilt the tool 45 degrees it will slid inside but the danger with that is its had to get it back out. Also, that was tested on an empty jar, I have not tested it on a jar full of food.

Q: How big across is the actual masher, the circular part with the holes?

It is just slightly under 3 inches across. But after having used it repeatedly for an excellent trial period I can say it is sturdy and well made. I don't let it sit in water in the sink, but I do use it weekly to mash pinto beans that I have cooked. I had been through 3-4 different stores "mashers" and was so frustrated- this one is a good tool and I'm happy with its performance.
