If you’re starting out as a consultant or freelancer, then this is the book for you. You need this book!Laura’s book is absolutely jam packed with the essentials to help you get started as a freelancer or consultant. The knowledge contained is applicable to almost any type of work related to freelancing. I highly recommend you highlight salient topics because you’ll need to review it as you go along on your journey in freelancing. My copy is thoroughly marked up and 3M sticky’s are on the pages of the important topics I need to know and understand fully to help me achieve freelance consulting success.Chapter 2 “master your mindset” was probably the most important chapter in the whole book. Mindset is everything to become and be successful in everything you do in life and especially as a freelancer or consultant. This chapter you’ll need to revisit many times and also to help you do the mental work necessary to squash your self-limiting beliefs. I’m glad this chapter was second and she explained why it was placed second in the book in her podcast.It also has supplementary downloads you can use that will help you with each of the chapters. I found it very valuable to review and use. It saved me from having to do these templates myself from scratch. They are very useful. You could always build your own from her templates and customize to your needs and liking.More over, Laura’s podcast is a great compliment to her book and I found it convenient to listen to it after studying her book and hearing her discuss important topics that reinforced the messages in her book and also some new topics related all to freelancing.To conclude, you’ll definitely need to read this book if you’ve decided to pivot away from the corporate world and become an independent freelancer or consultant. It’s the best starting point I’ve come across so far and I value it, the handouts, and the podcast that Laura has put out regularly. Her Ted Talk is really good too and that’s what convinced me to buy her book. Books are a great investment and an intimate way to level up your life. This book helps you do that as a freelancer and consultant in the new gig economy.

So far it's been an incredible book

This was assigned as a text book in my graduate program and I have never wanted to throw a book out of the window. The author is extremely out of touch with reality (and the reality of a freelance career) and she’s incredibly condescending. The only thing that got me through the course was imagining ripping the pages of this book out one by one and setting them on fire when the class was over.
