Ranger Ready Permethrin Spray
Went on easy. no discoloration on trousers or shirts. Wore both on a recent fishing trip in the Sierras. and no bugs (no mosquitos but after sitting on an old log, some large ants that never bit!) Since ants don't bother me if they don't bite, and no mosquitos found me with no repellant other than this spray, I would call it a worthwhile investment. I also have the Ranger Ready picardan spray which hasn't been used yet, but will be reviewed when the full mosquito season hits southern California.

Lifechanging!!
A lot of marketing scares folks into being concerned about "chemicals" these days, resulting in the use of insect repellents that are "plant based" but don't actually do anything - seriously, go look up efficacy studies, the essential oil scented products are solidly ineffective at preventing mosquito or tick bites. With the rise of both mosquito-borne diseases (ZIKA, etc) and tick-borne concerns (nobody wants that meat allergy, let alone Lyme), finding a better way to keep yourself safe without causing an environmental disaster is super important. If you're able to plan ahead, this stuff is the answer. The bottle says this amount of product will cover 7 full outfits, and that's thoroughly true. I hung a clothesline in the back yard and sprayed a week's worth of outdoors clothes + my boots and had maybe 1/6 of the bottle left over. The pump spray was effective at creating a broad mist without splatters or getting clogged up. Coming out of the bottle, this product has a vague plasticky bitter odor that 100% vanished when the clothes were dry - seriously, balling up the shirt to give it a thorough sniff the next morning resulted in it just smelling like clean laundry, ZERO lingering odor. It also did not leave any residue on clothes or the soft suede outers of my boots - no greasy feel to the touch, no visible change in color or texture. But more important than how much was in the bottle or how it smelled is whether it worked, and that is a resounding YES. Tromping through south TX swamps in search of amazing wildlife yielded me no more than a mosquito bite on the back of one hand and the edge of one ear, places not covered by my permethrin-shielded clothes. No matter how hot & sweaty you get, and how hard it rains (both plentiful on this trip), this stuff doesn't wash off, and keeps working great through a couple runs in the washing machine. Even if you're the kind of person who packs light and does laundry halfway through a trip, you will still be protected from insects without needing to re-apply. And since it bonds to the clothing fabric and doesn't sweat/rinse off, it's not being deposited into nature as you go, so you are not causing any environmental harm by using this. The only catch is that you need to prep your clothes at least 6 hours before, and ideally at least the day before - you spray until your clothes are lightly damp then leave it to dry, so you can't spritz today's shirt 10 minutes before you head out the door. Highly recommended, will purchase again for any upcoming wildlife trip.

No Ticks.
Treated our clothing and hats before a week outside in the woods, washed everything at least twice, none of us got a tick in a VERY tick-filled area. Highly recommend, especially as tick-born illnesses get worse each year.

No more ticks!
Our family has some property which, this spring, has quite the tick problem. Since spring has sprung, we've found ticks on our clothing every time we've been there even when using Off bug spray. We definitely wanted a better solution, and after doing some research, the CDC recommends a Permethrin treatment for your clothing. This is just the ticket. I pre-treated some clothes (shirt, socks, pants, and shoes. Did my hat too) and after spending a couple days at the property I'm happy to report we found a grand total of 0 ticks on us. None. So, either the ticks have moved on, or this works. I'm willing to bet it's that second option because we're still in spring and everything is green and growing here in CA, perfect tick season. For anyone wondering, once applied to clothing and dry, we haven't been able to smell anything out of the ordinary. During application just make sure you're not downwind of the spray, and wear a mask.

Drips
Ordered this for a trip to Africa and the results remain to be seen. I like that it doesn't have a strong odor. My only complaint is it drips while you spray. Tightening the nozzle doesn't help. Make sure to have your ground covered well while spraying.
