A comprehensive dive into the history of French food., and its deep intertwinement with French culture. If you're a foodie with an historical bent, this is for you. Well-written, and a surprisingly easy read given its expected research/reference intensive nature. The chapter on bread answers some age-old questions that easily could apply to any culture. One comes away having an even deeper respect and reverence for the French and their approach to food. Recommended.
